The Pilgrim

Cultural expressions of piety usually make for good photographic material. I’d observed this old woman shortly after I entered the Batu Cave main temple, but I almost missed this chance because my attention was somewhere else. When I saw where she was going to light her offering though I had to run to get to the right spot. She was standing in a well of light coming from the main chamber’s skylight, and the red-painted steps behind her were glistening because it had rained just before we came to the temple.
