How would you convey the idea of ‘Hollywood’ in a burger? Cathy and I thought hard about this, rejecting ideas that would take too much focus from the food or look cheesy – like the idea of putting a Hollywood sign or making the burger look like it was part of the 20th Century Fox marquee – until finally we settled on shooting the burger like it a glamour shot of the 1930s-40s. We didn’t have a food stylist with us for this shoot, so we had to get the burger, run with it to our studio, then shoot while it was still hot. This was a test shoot for the client, when we do the menu we’ll be shooting it at their place. What’s important is that we have the lighting down, so we can replicate the setup in the restaurant and do all the menu items in quick succession with minimal tweaking.
